Encourage them to check out the Model UN mid-term movie marathon!  Movies will be played in the AHS auditorium each afternoon and snacks will be available for sale.  All proceeds go to the Model UN club.

Smart Money – Parent Survey
Parents of High School Sophomores and Juniors –
We are writing to get your feedback on a program that we have offered in limited capacity over the past three years.  The program is called “Smart Money” and focuses on educating students on the basics of finances, including credit cards, compounding interest, student loans, budgeting, leasing and buying cars, and other related topics.  Beginning in 2016, high school students with availability in their schedules were offered the opportunity to attend a series of three one-hour sessions and an expense-paid field trip to the federal bankruptcy court in Worcester, MA to participate in a mock personal bankruptcy session.  The program is offered at no cost to students and is run by local parents in the community who have careers in finance and accounting.
As we plan for the upcoming sessions of the program, we wanted to reach out with a few questions about your child’s interest and scheduling. Please complete the attached survey.
Thank you for your time –
The Ashland Smart Money Team

Thanks to the generosity of the PTO Ashland High School is once again participating in Challenge Day on February 4!  All students received an email invitation and are encouraged to sign-up if they are interested in attending this day built to break down the barriers and build a positive community.  We will have up to 125 students participate and 30 staff members so there will be a lottery if we have more students interested than spots available.  Parents, we need your help to make this a successful endeavor.  Are you willing to volunteer as a substitute for the day?  We are looking for parents to cover for teachers so they can be a part of this amazing experience.  Email Mrs. St. Coeur at kstcoeur@ashland.k12.ma.us if you can help.  Hours are 8:10am- 2:45pm.  It's a great opportunity to get a look into the experience of your student for a day!

If you have a student in 9th grade please review this message from the AHS nurses.

Student Government Day:
Is your child interested in learning more about how politics works at the state level?  Ashland High School needs to elect two juniors or seniors (one representative and one alternate, who will still participate fully in the day) to participate in "Student Government Day" on Friday, April 5th, 2019.  Students will travel to the State House in Boston, shadowing lawmakers and participating in the legislative process.  For more information, see http://www.doe.mass.edu/famcomm/student/sgd_program.html

Any students interested in running should see Mr. Wiczer in B251 by Wednesday, January 16th.  Students will give speeches over the intercom on Thursday, January 17th (explaining to their peers why they would be a good representative from AHS) and voting will take place on Thursday, January 17th during all three lunches.

A reminder from NHS:
The National Honor Society is hosting "Strike Out Suicide" a bowling fundraiser at Bowlero in Shrewsbury on Saturday, January 26, from 5 to 7 pm.  You can form at team (of up to 8 people), at a cost of $80 (so, $10 per person for 8, $20 per person for 4, etc.) for one of the two times slots, 5-6 p.m. or 6 to 7 p.m. (or get your bowl on for two hours for $160!).

All funds raised go to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, this year's charity.  Bring your family and friends for a fun time supporting a great cause.  Here is the link to sign up!  You don't have to have 8 people, you could have 4, or whatever number, the cost of the lane for the hour is $80.  This is after midterm exams are over and a great way to relax and enjoy time with friends.

Go here to sign up!

If you have any questions, see an NHS officer or Marybeth Gallant at mgallant@ashland.k12.ma.us

Please help us STRIKE OUT SUICIDE!  Thanks!
